Elizabeth L. “Betty” Hendricks went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 at the age of 88. A lifelong Lynden resident, she was born July 17, 1922 to John and Minnie (Mulder) Van Dalfsen and graduated from Lynden High School in 1940. On June 4, 1943 Betty was married to Herman Hendricks. Following high school she worked at the Lynden Co-Op and later as a clerk for the New Crescent. A member of Third Christian Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School; Betty also had a great love for music and was actively involved as church organist, choir member, singing in Ladies Sextet and also The Messiah. A favorite pastime was knitting.
Preceded in death by her loving husband Herman in 2005; daughter Marilee in 2007 and infant son Jerry and sister, Marian Hendricks; Betty is survived by son Dale (Cheryl) Hendricks of Lynden and daughter Jeanie (Jeff) Jameson of Sammamish; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister Martha Hendricks; brother Albert (Jean) Van Dalfsen; brother-in-law Les Hendricks; sisters-in-law Henrietta Kok, Bernice (Don) Kooy and Leona Vander Griend.
Visitation hours are scheduled Thursday, Sept. 23, 5 to 7 pm at Gillies Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, Sept. 24, 10:15 am in Monumenta Cemetery followed by an 11:00 am memorial service at Third Christian Reformed Church, 514 Liberty St. in Lynden. Memorials in Betty’s name are suggested to Christian Health Care Center, 855 Aaron Dr., Lynden, WA 98264.
