Henry Wassell was born in 1885 in Birmingham, son of a laundress named Emma Wassell, formerly Mitchell, and her husband George Wassell, a porter. Henry was the second of the couple's four children, although his elder sister had died as a baby, making Henry effectively the eldest of three children. In 1889, when Henry was only about four years old, his mother Emma died, aged 24.
The 1891 census finds Henry living with his father and sister Florence in Aston, in the suburbs of Birmingham. Henry was still living with his father in 1901, when Henry was working as a bicycle fitter. In 1911 Henry was still living with his father and working as a vat builder in a vinegar brewery.
Henry has yet to be researched after 1911.
