Land Record

This Indenture made the fifth (5th) day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty (1820) between Jacob SMITH Sen and Polley his wife of the County of Montgomery and state of Virginia of the one (1) part and Henry SHOCKEY of the County and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Jacob SMITH Sen & Polley his wife for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty (50) Dollars current money of Virginia to them in hand paid the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge hath bargained and sold and by there presents doth give grant bargain and sell and deliver and confirm to Henry SHOCKEY and his heirs or assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of Land containing twenty eight (28) acres lying and being in the county and state above written on the south fork of Roanoke bounded as followeth to wit Beginning at a black oak on the widdow SHILLINGs and WEBBs line, and with his line South 19 West 94 poles crossing a branch to a maple and leaving said line North 65 West 41 poles to two (2) ash saplings in a branch South 77 West 16 poles to a white oak sapling on a line of LEWIS' and with it North 15 West 40 poles crossing a branch to a chestnut by a path on the widow SHILLINGs line & with it North 65 East 100 poles to the beginning, To have and to hold the said premiss unto said Shockey His heirs or assigns forever the said Jacob SMITH Sen and Polley his wife doth covenant for themselves their heirs to warrant and defend the right and title of said Land unto said SHOCKEY and his heirs forever against the claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever in witness whereof they do hereunto set their hand and seals this day and year above written
