Obituary for Hon. Henry B. Perkins (excerpts)

DEATH OF HON. H.B. PERKINS ON SUNDAY.
Close of a Long and Honored Career - Born in, and a Life Long Resident of Warren.

Sorrow profound depressed Warren citizens of every rank in life Sunday afternoon, when it became known that Hon. Henry B. Perkins had, while under the impulse of melancholia, taken his life. No resident of Warren was more widely known or better liked, for his high character, manifold benevolences and democracy of manner. For the past two years, Mr. Perkins' health had been seriously impaired. He had been about the grounds at his home on Mahoning avenue during the forenoon, and shortly before had been chatting with his gardener, William Nesbitt, expressing gratification that the flood in the Mahoning river was receding without causing serious injury. It was about one o'clock when members of the family went to the office adjoining the residence to summon Mr. Perkins to dinner, and discovered his lifeless body hanging in an upper room. Mr. Perkins rarely stepped out unless accompanied by a member of the household, and had been absent but a few minutes.

  3. Henry Perkins' residence on Mahoning Ave. is now the Warren City Hall housing the mayor and city officials. His extensive estate abutting the east side of the Mahoning River is now Perkins Park. My great-grandfather, Alexander Batie Kilpatrick was for many years, a caretaker/groundskeeper for the Perkins estate.
