Notes: 1850 census Henry Laisure: Male See RootsWeb by Mary Jo Bailey Obituary: From the Berne Witness, Berne, Indiana Wednesday, 26 December 1945 Henry Laisure Dies Today at County Hospital Mr. Laisure had been in failing health for some time. He had his left leg amputated at the hospital on Saturday, November 24, and had been a patient there since. He had apparently recovered nicely from the operation and was gaining strength when complications of heart and kidney developed and caused his death. Laisure ran a variety or "racket" store here for several years, selling out to Menno Burkhalter in 1903 and Burkhalter started The Fair Store. Laisure also farmed for a few years and was employed at the Dunbar furniture plant for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Laisure lived in Michigan for 16 years following their marriage, then moved to Berne and lived here since. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on October 17th of this year. Mr. Laisure was born in Wisconsin on November 20, 1857 to John and Magdalene (Martz) Laisure. He was married to Elizabeth Striker on November 20, 1885. She survives and is confined to her bed at the present, suffering from the flu and may not be able to attend her husband's funeral. Surviving are the widow, who is 78 years of age, four sons, Ora H. Laisure, Fremont, Michigan, Freem. J. Laisure, East Jordan, Michigan, Paul E. Laisure, Hesperia, Michigan and Corliss Laisure, Laura, Illinois. Two brothers and two sisters survive. They are Rush and Charles Laisure, both of New Castle, Mrs. Catherine Marion of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Suzanna lliff of Wyoming. Four sons, Dennis, Andrew and Forest and one in infancy, two daughters Gracie and Clara, two sisters and three brothers preceded. Mr. Laisure was a member of the Trinity Evangelical church here. The body was taken to the Yager mortuary and will be removed from there to the Yager funeral home at 4:00 o'clock Thursday where it may be viewed. The funeral will be held at the Yager funeral home at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon, the Rev. C. P. Maas, pastor of the Evangelical church, officiating.
