Henry Jameson. The prominence of Glenn county as the home of extensive ranches of grain and stock is well established throughout the Sacramento valley, as is also the character of the men who have proven their ability in the development of this section. Among these citizens mention belongs to Henry Jameson, who is located in the vicinity of Glenn, where he rents four hundred acres of the Tate ranch in addition to his own property of seven hundred acres, all of which is devoted to the cultivation of wheat and barley, and the raising of cattle, horses and hogs. Mr. Jameson is a native of Jo Daviess county, Ill., born February 26, 1849, a son of John B. Jameson. The latter was also a native of Illinois, who came to California overland in 1854, traveling by ox teams to the state, where, upon his arrival, he located near Calistoga, in Napa valley, and engaged in farming. After eight years he removed to Solano county, and in the vicinity of Dixon engaged in farming for nearly thirty years. Disposing of his property there in 1890 he went to Tulare county and made his home with his son until his death. His wife, formerly Catherine Watts, a native of England, came to the United States at the age of eight years. She was married in Illinois and accompanied her husband across the plains to California, her death occurring in the vicinity of Dixon. Of their nine children, four sons and five daughters, four sons and three daughters attained maturity, Henry Jameson being the third in order of birth.

Educated in the common schools of California, Henry Jameson began an agricultural life with his father in Solano county, where he remained until 1868, when he sough independent operations in the same locality. After five years in the fall of 1873, he went to Colusa county, and near Jacinto (this section now being Glenn county), rented land of the Montgomery estate. After on year he located on his present property, which consists of four hundred acres twelve miles southeast of Willows, and on the Sacramento river, and at the same time rented seven hundred acres adjoining, which in the fall of 1888 he purchased. He has been successful in his work, devoting his time principally to the raising of grain, although he has also about eighy head of cattle, thirty horses ans some hogs, and conducts a small dairy. In addition to the property mentioned he also rents six hundred and forty acres west of Princeton, colusa county, a half of which he farms, while the remainder is in pasture.

In the vicinity of his present home Mr. Jameson was united in marriage with Agnes Magilton, a native of Connecticut. Fraternally Mr. Jameson is a member of Monroe Lokge, I. O. O. F., of Colusa, and politically gives support to the Republican party.
