Biograhpy Henry Beamer11 Carroll 1765-1815: The Settlements, By John Perry Alderman; Published by Alderman Books, 1985, p. 211. Henry Beamer bought 50 acres from John Jones in 1798 and thereafter acquired more tracts, totaling about 600 acres. His own homeplace was entered by Zachariah Stanley in 1804 and Henry received the grant to it in 1809 (Grayson, Entry A-109; Grants 58-69). Henry prospered very well indeed, and he had the respect of his neighbors. He was a slave holder after 1812, and in 1809 he succeeded Henry H. Dean as surveyor of his road precinct. Henry left the county in 1813 (that is the last year he is found on the Grayson tax rolls) and moved to Surry County, North Carolina where he lived the rest of his life. He sold most of his Grayson land in 1818, but Philip Beamer bought his homeplace in 1812. |
