That Cornelis had a father named Hendrick is demonstrated by the use of Hendrickszen as a patronymic. That his father may have used "Van Ness" as a surname is highly probably, given the records of the area show the surname in use by 1550. However, this otherwise unidentified Hendrick should not be confused with an earlier Hendricks Gerritszen who died between 1550 and 1552. The relationship of Cornelis and his father to this family has not yet been documented.
