About Helen MacAloney
Helen Annie MacAloney was born 19 May 1915 in Worchester County, Massachusetts, the daughter of Frank MacAloney and his wife Annie Parmenter. Helen was married twice, first in 1946, to John Francis Parmenter (1915-1968) and 2nd aft. 1955, to Henry Harrison Crowe, Jr. (1924-2013). Prior to her marriage to John Parmenter, Helen had three children out-of-wedlock: Willard Robert MacAloney, born in 1935; Donald Arthur MacAloney, born in 1936; and Paul Albert MacAloney, born in 1938. It is believed that Annie was unable to adequately provide for these three sons were all placed in orphans or foster homes for most of their childhood. This appears to be confirmed in Massachusetts Town records in Westminster, Massachusetts, when Helen MacAloney was listed in the "Pauper Records" on 16 December 1931, shortly after the beginning of the Great Depression. In personal accounts from her eldest son, Willard Robert MacAloney, Helen rarely visited him in the orphans or foster homes that he was placed, and appeared to show little interest in her three older sons. Her three children born after her marriage to John Francis Parmenter no doubt faired much better in their upbringing.
According to MacAloney family members, Helen was a large woman who lived in relative poverty for much of her early life, and had to rely upon family members to assist her prior to her two marriages. Helen died on 10 September 1990 in Shirley, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, some 23 years prior to the death of her second husband Henry Harrison Crowe in 2013.
