Before marrying his wife, Nancy, he was engaged to another girl, Betty Davis. After they broke up, he met Nancy and he gave her the ring from Betty and had it reset

Harvey moved with his parents to Detroit, Michigan in 1912. Attended StJ ohn's Military Academy at Delafield, Wisconsin. He graduated as Cadet officer Captain of Company D. The depression and bank failures wreaked havoc with the family fortunes in Detroit, so further college education went by the wayside and Harvey worked for his father in the butter and egg business until World War II. He then joined Vickers, Inc.,

Harvey served on the Board of Spring Manufacturers Institute and in 1966 was president of the Chicago Association of Spring Manufactures. In1970, he moved the company to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and commuted from his home in Long Grove, Illinois. He belonged to Inverness Golf Club and enjoyed many a game. He retired to Sarasota, Florida, sold his company to his employees in 1983. The name changed to Badger Precision Spring Company.
