8 Jun 1911, p 2 - Harriet Boughner Carpenter, daughter of John and Mary Boughner, was born September 10, 1826, in Schuylkill county, Pennsylvania. She came with her parents in childhood to East Germantown, where she has lived since, a period of probably 70 years. She was united in marriage to Tolbert Carpenter in 1846, with whom she had a happy life for 41 years. Three sons and three daughters were born to them. Her husband and sons preceded her in death. Her life has been varied in condition as she was a widow for 24 years. She was of a kind and pleasant disposition and ever willing to lend a helping hand. The surviving children are Mrs. Mettert, of near Hagerstown, Mrs. Morris, of Dublin, and Miss Emma Carpenter, who always remained with her mother, nobly rendering every possible aid to relieve her suffering and to bring sunshine into her life. While not a member of any church she always read and believed her Bible and attended church when health and circumstances permitted. She departed this life June 2, 1911. A good life has gone out and those who knew her best will miss her most and profit by her many virtues. Funeral services were held at the family home Sunday afternoon by Rev. Speicher. Burial in the Lutheran cemetery.
