The death of Miss Emma Carpenter last Sunday at the home of her sister Mrs. Michael Mettert, at Economy, was much of a surprise to the people of this town where the deceased spent practically all of her sixty or more years. She went to Dayton last fall to spend the winter, but about seven weeks ago went to her sister's home where she was almost immediately stricken by her last sickness. Emma H., daughter of Tolbert and Harriet Carpenter, was born at East Germantown, Ind., July 27, 1855, died March 4, 1917, aged 61 years, 7 months and 5 days. Of the family only two sisters remain, Mrs. James Morris of Dublin and Mrs. Michael Mettert of Economy, her father, mother and five brothers having preceded her. By her jovial disposition and deeds of kindness she made friends where ever she went, always willing and ready to lend a helping hand. We will miss her from out our midst, but death being stronger than our love, we will leave all to a God who doeth all things well; may be not bow without murmering to the giver of all goodness. The body was brought here Monday and services held in the late home by Rev. Hanes. Burial in the Lutheran cemetery.
