    Herman Schols, 81, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2004 in Olympia.
    He was born on January 3, 1923 in Drente, Netherland, to Hendrik and Jantina Schols. In 1947 Herman moved to the United States with his family and settled in Washington State. During the next few years, Herman worked for several dairy farmers.
    On August 26, 1950, Herman and Jean (Wybenga) were married in Mount Vernon, Wash. They rented a dairy farm in 1954 in the Snoqualmie Valley (Carnation). In 1962, Herman and Jean purchased a dairy farm in Nisqually Valley. Here they raised and milked Holsteins from 1963 to 1986.
    Upon retiring from dairying, Herman and Jean kept active raising beef cattle, traveling with their fifth-wheel trailer, staying at their cabin by Lake Cushman and enjoying their grandchildren. Herman spent his final three months at the Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Olympia, where he received excellent care from the nurses and staff.
    Mr. Schols is survived by his wife, Jean; his children, daughters, Joana Harold (Ed), Joyce Hummel (John), Mariann Schols, and son, John Schols. He is also survived by grandchildren; Jason Harold, Ashley Harold, and Jordan Hummel.
    A service will be held on Tuesday, December 28 at 1:00p.m. at the Forest Funeral Home, 2501 Pacific Avenue, Olympia.
