[Board.FBC.FBK.FTW] Crash Kills Guy Hutchens Two Companions Are Injured on No. 40 Near Columbia Guy E. Hutchens, 57 years old, Kansas City druggist, who owned a store at 4915 East Twenty-fourth street, was killed early today on U. S. highway No 40, five miles west of Columbia, when a motor car in which he was riding to St. Louis crashed into a concrete bridge on the highway. William P. McCormick, 2324 Denver avenue, an employee of the city treasurer's office, who was riding with Hutchens, recieved bruises in the accident, as did Thomas Randol, 26 years old, 2414 Denver avenue. Randol was driving McCormick's car, a Willys-Knight coupe. The men had left Kansas City at night to drive to St. Louis to spend a day with friends there. At 3 o'clock they met a bus driven by H. C. McLaughlin, and Randol evidently was blinded by the lights of the bus. In swerving he hit the railing of a concrete bridge and the car was wrecked completely. McLaughlin took Hutchens, McCormick and Randol back to Columbia in his bus. It is not know whether Hutchens died immediately or on the trip to the Boone County hospital in Columbia, where McCormick and Randol were taken. Hutchens is survived by two sisters, Mrs. James P. Schnorf, 5039 the Paseo, and Mrs. J. A. Fryer, Nevada, Mo. Mrs. Schnorf received news of her brother's death through a telephone call from McCormick. References
