King Gundebold (Pondobaldus) Folcwalda

King of Frisia 748-760.

Occupation: 8th King of Friesland 748-760.

On his return in 760 he was defeated in Roncesvalles by the vascones.

In 777, Moorish rulers of Barcelona, Zaragoza and Gerona Charlemagne ask for help against the Emir of Cordoba. Charlemagne conquers Pamplona, but decides to stop his campaign if it fails to conquer Zaragoza. On the return trip, his rear guard is attacked by Basques at Roncesvalles and massacred. In 792, Hisham I, the Emir of Cordoba, called for a jihad against the Franks. Again, Muslim armies invade southern France, but are defeated at Orange by army commander Willem van Gelonne.
