See 5 Mar 1937 Indianola Record p6 col.4 obituary: Among comments there are mention of his success as an athlete (discus champion of A. E. F.- Army European Forces meet at Paris, All-state football at Simpson College two years, etc.. Cemetery & Death Records of Warren Co., IA (IGS) shows Gerald, E. Braught (Row 4 N>S with parents and sister Martella Zoe), Sgt. 603 Engr. Feb. 28, 1937. He and his new bride moved to Sheridan, WY where he worked for the Burlington RR, then as under-sheriff for Sheridan County until 1932. In 1933 he was appointed deputy US Marshall at Cheyenne, but in 1934 he suffered nervous breakdown and moved to farming at Minnesota. He died of streptococcus infection at St. Luke's Hospital Sun. morning, Feb. 28, 1937. Survivors were his Widow and daughter, two sisters (Mrs. Tom Hills of Tulsa, OK and Mrs. H.D. McGrew of Hallock, MN) and one brother, Ferris, of New Virginia, IA. Burial at Indianola, IA cemetery with military honors. There are two cemetery record cards for him; Gerald A. Braucht interred Mar. 2,1937 and Gerald Ashton Braught interred Mar 3, 1937 (heart trouble). Only one stone. References
