    George Winton was the son of William Winton and Rhonda "Betsy" McClellan. He was one of 8 children. His oldest brother was John Winton who married Arabella Cunningham. George married Catherine"Kate" Shultz in 1806 in Tennessee.

    While in Tennessee George served as a Captain in the war of 1812. He joined a wagon train from Kentucky and headed for Texas by way of Missouri in 1833. At the Oklahoma and Texas border soldiers stopped them and advised them that Indians were on the warpath. They turned back and settled in Polk County, Arkansas.

    George and Kate had eight children: Unknown daughter, James L., John S., Hiram Kinerson, William, and Stephen Mack. George Jr., and Matilda S.
