Biography

Obit Taken from Washington Evening Journal (Oct 21st , 1912) on Iowa Old Press. George E. Reighard, a long time resident of Dutchcreek Township, died at 11 o'clock last night at his home two miles from Dublin in Dutch Creek Township. The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 3 o'clock at the Hotle home. Mrs. Hotle is a daughter of Mr. Reighard, and he had lived at the Hotle home since last April. The service will be in charge of Rev. Thomas Howe, of West Chester, and interment will be in the New Haven Cemetery. Mr. Reighard was born in Virginia, January 19, 1831. He lived for a number of years with his family in Ohio, and was married in that state in July 1852 to Sarah Simpson who survives him, making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Hotle. Mr. and Mrs. Reighard came to Dutch Creek Township in 1861 and have made their home in that township continously with the exception of a few years spent in Keokuk County. The children living are Wm. Reighard, Mrs. D. C. Robertson, Mrs. Jacob Hotle, Miss Lizzie Reighard, Thomas Reighard, all of Dutch Creek Township, R. T. Reighard of Alberta, Canada and George A. Reighard of West Chester. Two years ago, Mr. Reighard suffered a stroke of paralysis and since that time has been without the power of speech. For several months he has been confined to his bed and of late his condition has been quite serious, and the end was not unexpected. Mr. Reighard was a member of the Baptist Church, having become connected with that denomination during his residence in Ohio. He was an upright citizen, well known and respected in the vicinity in which he made his home for so many years.
