  9. " George Cook, a prominent German citizen who lived four miles east of this city, died Sunday evening at five o'clock after an illness of ten days. On the 26th of February he was stricken with paralysis and a few days afterward his illness was complicated by erysipeias. Though possessed of a strong constitution, his age was too great to resist the combined forces of the enemy, and Sunday evening he passed peacefully away.
Mr. Cook was born in Lycoming county, PA, July 7, 1809, and at the time of his death was aged 81 years, 8 months and 1 day. June 24, 1833, he was married to Maggie Young, and to this union ten children were born, eight of whom are still living--five sons and three daughters. One son, Frederick, and a daughter, Rachel, wife of J. H. Kiess, live in Whetstone township. David, George, Samuel and William live in Williams county, this state. Mary, wife of Wm. Kiess, in Steuben county, IN, and Elizabeth, wife of Jacob Gross, at Salina, Kansas. There are 36 of his grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren living.
In 1850 he moved to this county and settled on the farm on which he died. His first wife died in 1854 and three years later he was married to Rebecca Ronk. He was jolly and good natured in his disposition and made many friends. He was a faithful member of the Evangelical church. Funeral service at 11 o'clock this morning at Salem church, and interment at Salem graveyard, four miles east of the city." sourch unknown. Copy provided by Robert Johnson
