George Hall was baptised on 23rd March 1823 at Ickleford in Hertfordshire, son of a labourer named Joseph Hall and his wife Elizabeth.

On 4th February 1843, aged 19, George married Eleanor (or Ellen) Pestell at Ickleford. Less than three months later she gave birth to a son, whom they named George. However, Eleanor died either giving birth or shortly afterwards, being buried at Ickleford on 11th May 1843, after just three months of marriage. She was only 17 years old. Young George was not baptised until a couple of weeks after his mother's death.

In 1846, George married again. His second wife was Abigail Wilshere, who was from the nearby town of Hitchin. They do not appear to have had any further children together. The 1851 census finds the family living at Bancroft in Hitchin, with George working as a butcher whilst Abigail was a dressmaker.

It appears that the family emigrated to America in the mid 1850s, settling at Riverside in Burt County, Nebraska. The 1870 and 1880 censuses each find the family living there with George working as a farmer. George has not been traced after 1880, but appears to have died before 1900 when Abigail (who had moved to San Diego in California to live with her stepson George) described herself as a widow.
