    Studied law in Frankfort & Louisville and graduated from Louisville Law School about 1855. Between about 1865 & 1880, he practiced law in St. Louis. In 1881, he and his wife moved to Clarksville. In 1893, he chaired the Bar Association committee that granted John Nance Garner his first law license. Between 1893 & 1897, he served as Red River County Judge & ex officio county school superintendent. Afterwards served several terms on the Clarksville city council and as alderman. He was instrumental in promoting Clarksville's Carnegie library.
