George was listed in the 1880 Westfork Township, Franklin County, Iowa census as six years old and not yet attending school. As a young man he raised Chester White purebred hogs and won many first and second prizes with them. He also raised Perchon horses. When in his teens he and his brother Frank used to get the black from the stove and apply as mustaches. George married Mary Krusemark on 12 October 1897, according to Mary's obituary. When they were first married a drunk got into their barn and burned down both it and the house. George and Mary had three children. Mary Bobst died 6 December 1903 with internment at Westfork Township, Iowa. George then married Minnie Letzring, a school teacher, on 28 January. While courting Minnie they were riding, when her lunch spilled out with beans all over. He never ceased to tease her about her beans. George and Minnie had eleven children. Minnie died about 18 June 1943. George married Lila Willier on 28 March 1945 and they had no children. Fairs were much of George's life and while he and Lila were attending one in Iowa, a foot race was announced and George slipped away. Next thing Lila knew the speaker announced another runner, George Bobst, 66 years old. The announcer made it amusing that he should run against all these young fellows. George kicked off his shoes and socks, ran barefoot, and won the prize.
