Frederick came from Pillkallen, Ostpreneuf sen Deutsches Reich in the German state (East Prussia). Over the years, Pillkallen was changed to Schlossberg, then to Dubrovlsk. In Germany, Frederick was a miner. The area was fought over because of its vast coal supply. After coming to the U.S., Fred continued to work as a miner. Later in life, he was a gardener for U.S. Steel at Old Meadow, PA. His flower beds won prizes. Fred's citizenship papers were dated 1 September 1890 at Uniontown in Fayette County. Fred & August had all their children baptized by the Rev. Dietz in the German Lutheran Church in Connellsville, PA. The records were burned in a church fire.
