Fred was born some months after his father died of pleurisy. Fred was a graduate of Geneva College, B.S., 1899. He graduated fromSterling Medical College (now part of Ohio State University), Columbus,Ohio, 1904. He then took a two-year course in Eye, Ear, Nose and Throatstudies. He opened his medical practice in Okmulgee, OK in 1906 where his brother, Joseph, was already practicing medicine.
