From the News-Sentinel obituaries; Tuesday, February 11, 1958:

Fred O. BATZ, 79, R.R. 3, Rochester, a lifetime resident of the Richland township area, died at his home at 4 a.m. today after an illness of three weeks.

Born in Fulton county on Nov. 3, 1878, he was the son of Isaac and Eliza KESLER BATZ. On March 26, 1898, he ws married in Fulton county to Cora E. THOMPSON, who died in 1933. He was a farmer by occupation.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lorene HUNTER, Edwardsburg, Mich.; three sons, Floyd [BATZ], Monticello; Robert [BATZ], South Bend, and Charles [BATZ], Edwardsburg,; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A daugter preceded him in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Grandview church in Richland township. Burial will be in the Sycamore cemetery in Newcastle township.Friends may call at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
