Facts and Events
I looked in the 1850 census for all Barbers born in VT, but residing in NY; NONE had a son, Frank. He *might* be the William F. Barber, age 3, son of Roswell Barber, 37, widowed? farmer with several children, living in Hamburg, Erie Co., in 1850. Further clues to support this theory is that the 13-year-old son living with this family in 1860, still in Hamburg, is now named Franklin! He's not with them in 1870 (but shouldn't be; he's married by then) Yes! This is him... After not being able to find him in 1870 as Frank or Franklin (and married to Ellen), I find him as Wm. F. Barber (his parents b. NY, not VT!!):
