François Monet dit Laverdure came to Canada toward the end of the 1600s. Like Jacques Poissant dit Lasaline, he was a soldier in a Marine Regiment in the Company of Monsieur De Noyan and fought at the Battle of Quebec in 1690. François married Marie Dumas in 1699. There is mention that under the command of Captain Pierre Payen, sieur de Noyan, Soldat François Monet dit Laverdure took part in the raid on Deerfield, MA which took place on the early morning of 29 Feb 1704. There is mention of 4 other men who may have taken part in the raid: Sergent Robert Groston dit St-Ange, Soldat Claude Guérin dit Laviolette, Soldat André Lebon dit Desloriers and Soldat Jacques Poissant dit Laselline. There may be a much more detailed list of the French soldiers involvedin the Deerfield raid, but most likely it was not a very large number as the majority of raiding party was recruited from local allied Indian warriors.
