Facts and Events
Francis Ludolph Wallis was a Planter and Episcopalian. Old Kent Appendix to the 1936 Edition says "Francis Ludolph Wallis was one of Natures nobleman, of fine upright character, and unusual attainments. He was 6 ft. 4 1/2 in. tall and of commanding presence. In Maryland he lived first at Friendship then Depford and finally at beautiful Evergreen a 300 acre plantation near Locust Grove and Shrewsbury. He was a gentleman farmer, a kind master and loving father." Francis Ludolph, as did all of the sons of John and Sarah Wallis, went to Louisiana and bought a sugar plantation said to have been on the Bayou Tesch. However, he later returned to live in Kent Co. but is reported to have returned to Louisiana to manage the plantation yearly. At the time of his death he still owned the plantation and his son, Francis Adolphus, made two trips to Louisiana to sell the property. Francis Ludolph Wallis was commissioned a Captain of the Columbia Hussars, a company of the 8th Regimental cavalry of the Maryland Militia. References
