Facts and Events
Went to public schools in Haviland, Kansas, college at Kansas University, and Medical School at Northwestern University in Chicago, graduating in 1934. Then after three years post-graduate training in Detroit, Michigan, a total of twenty-three years of schooling, my wife and son and I moved to Pratt, Kansas to begin the practice of medicine. I became interested in Medicine as a career at the age of five through the influence of my mother and my maternal uncle, James Linn Adams, M.D., who practiced medicine in a suburb of Los Angeles. After practicing medicine in Pratt for five years, I entered military service in 1942 as a Flight Surgeon in the North African and European Theaters; later as an internist in Idaho and Wright-Paterson Field in Dayton, Ohio. At the close of the war, I resumed medical practice in Pratt. Mary also resumed her interest in music, especially in composition. She has won many awards for compostion in Federation of Music competition. She is a member of the Kansas Author's Club. Despite our busy careers, we have managed to take time off for travel and study, both in this country and abroad numerous times. Our travels, once around the world, have helped us to appreciate living the the United States, and especially in south central Kansas. (Dr. F. A. Thorpe, Kiowa Co. History) Died January 15, 1994 at age 85 of congestive heart failure. |
