Daughter of Frank E. and Eva Thomas Dowell, mother of Stephen Francis Thorpe.

Mary was an accomplished pianist and composer. She won many awards for composition in Federation of Music competition. After graduation from Haviland, Kansas High School, she attended the University of Kansas and Friends University where she majored in music.

Mary died of complications from cancer. First occurrence was in 1987--radical mastectomy of left breast; 1989, radical mastectomy of right breast; July 31, 1990, removal of malignant brain tumor. She died without pain or suffering on October 26, 1990, in the Lifecare Nursing Home, Pratt, KS. (SFT)
