  1. Obituary - Bloomfield Vindicator, November 22, 1895
Rev. F. M. Rhodes, was born June 16, 1845 professed religion and join the M. E. Church South, in 1864 and was married to Mary L. Bartlett, August the 7th 1864, and was licensed to preach in 1879, and was ordained a Deacon in 1889, and departed this life Oct. the 31, 1895 age 50 years, 4 months, 16 days.
Brother Rhodes was well known through out the St. Louis Conference, more especially in the Poplar Bluff district. He has met with wonderful success in his preaching more especially in revival meetings and many shouts and praises to God has been heard, and many lambs brought into the folds of Christ under the auspices of his well conducted meetings, and while it is true that Bros. Rhodes is waiting for us on the other side, his influence will be felt on earth for many years to come as there are earnest Christians who stand as living witnesses and say it was under the influence of Bros. Rhodes preaching that I was converted and our prayer is that we all may run the race of life bravely and win the prize set for us as did our esteemed friend and Bro. who died in the service of the Lord. By the death of Bro. Rhodes the St. Louis Conference lost an earnest worker, the church a loyal pastor, the community a well respected
citizen and the family a kind loving affectionate husband and father, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family and say we all look forward to the day when we can shake hands with Bro. Rhodes whose very presence even now seems so near on the gold paved street of the Celestial city and join in the chorus of "Worth is the lamb that was slain."
    Yours in Jesus Name.
