D. E. Rhoades D. E. Rhoades, for the past 18 months a resident of Winfield, died at 12:45 p.m. today at his home at 519 East Fifteenth avenue. For an extended length of time Mr. Rhoades had been in failing health and he had been confined to his bed for sometime. His death was attributed to a heart affliction. Mr. Rhoades was 51 years, 4 months and 26 days old. The family moved to Winfield from Howard. At Howard Mr. Rhoades held membership in the Methodist Episcopal church and he was affiliated with the Coffeyville chapter of the Masonic order. Besides his widow, Mr. Rhoades is survived by two daughters, Josephine and Clara, of the home and a son D. E. Rhoades, Jr., of Wichita. No funeral arrangements had been made late this afternoon. Obituary - HOWARD, COFFEYVILLE, INDEPENDENCE paper? 26 April 1936 ERNEST RHOADES DIES Former Ice Plant Employee and Springhill Farmer Succumbed at Winfield Yesterday. Ernest Rhoades, an engineer at the old Shepard & Chain ice plant here, now the Southwest Utility company's plant, for several years before moving to a farm in the Springhill vicinity, northwest of Coffeyville, died yesterday afternoon at 12:45 o'clock at his home at Winfield, where he moved from Howard eighteen months ago. The Rhoades family moved from the Coffeyville vicinity to Howard about seven years ago. Mr. Rhoades had been in failing health for several years and had been confined to his bed for some time. His death was attributed to a heart ailment. He was engaged in the transfer business at Howard and his period of ill-health began there, when he cranked his truck, which happened to be in gear, and was caught between the truck and a building and badly injured. He drove a delivery truck for a Wichita paper for a while after moving to Winfield. Besides his wife, who was The Journal's Springhill correspondent for several years, Mr. Rhoades is survived by two daughters, Josephine and Clara of the home and a son, D. E. Rhoades, Jr., of Wichita. He was aged 51 years, 4 months and 26 days. He held membership in the Masonic lodge in Coffeyville and in the Methodist Episcopal Church at Howard. Al Livingston, 120 Grace Boulevard, and Mrs. R. S. Brown, 10 New Street, brother-in law and niece, respectively, of Mr. Rhoades and Mrs. Livingston went to Winfield this morning to attend services this afternoon. [Mistake: D. E. Rhoades should be E. F. Rhodes]
