Monroe County Mail, 8 Mar 1917: Floyd Olin, aged 21, killed a 300 pound black bear near his home at Orwell, Oswego County, one morning recently. The bear was in a piece of woods and climbed a tree. Watertown Daily Times, 19 Nov 1970: FLOYD OLIN DIES AT 75 Lowville-- Floyd E. Olin, 75, Lowville RD 4, retired farmer and woodsman, died at his home Tuesday afternoon at 5 of an apparent heart attack. He had not been seriously ill. The funeral will be Saturday afternoon... at the Birkler Funeral Home, Rev. J. Paul Muller, pastor, United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in West Lowville Cemetery. The Lewis County VFW Post will conduct a military service at the cemetery. Mr. Olin is survived by his widow, Rose B. Hayes Olin; a son, Lloyd, Glenfield RD 1; three brothers, Delbert, Raymond and Clyde, all of Richland; a sister, Mrs. Lynn (Ella) Phillips, Pulaski; two grandchildren... He was born at Jayville in the Adirondacks Feb. 18, 1895, son of the late Louis and Minnie Luker [!] Olin. He served with the Army in World War 1 and saw service in France. He married Rose B. Hayes July 6, 1918 at Pulaski. For the last 40 years the couple had lived at their present home, where Mr. Olin operated a farm and worked as a woodsman. He retired in 1958. Mr. Olin was a member of the Methodist Church and a member of the Lewis County VFW post, Lowville.
