Likely Parentage

"Fanny" Davis is a likely daughter of Walter Davis and his wife Martha Cunningham. Fanny's husband John Caldwell witnessed the will of Fanny's likely mother, Martha [Cunningham] Davis, as follows:

  • Page 28.--26th December, 1805. Martha Davis' will--To daughter, Martha Rives, heirs of son James; daughter, Euphora Donley, heirs of daughter Sally Ewin; son, Wm. Davis; daughter, Elizabeth Parks; son, John Davis. Executors, William and Jno. Davis. Teste: Jno. Caldwell, Jno. Brown, Walter Davis. Proved, 24th March 1806.

Fanny likely died prior to the writing of Walter Davis' will on 15 March 1803, since she is not listed, nor are any grandchildren by her and John Caldwell. Additional research/sources are needed to prove this relationship.

Records in Augusta County, VA

From Chalkley's:

  • Vol. 2, Page 179.--25th August, 1790. John Caldwell's will, planter--To son, James; to daughters, Sarah, Mary, Fenny, Annas; to wife, Jane; to sons, John, Thomas, Samuel. Executors, wife Jane and son John. Teste: Abraham Larew, Peter and Elizabeth Larew. Proved, July Court, 1795, by Abraham and Peter. Presented in court by Jane. [Note: it appears that Fanny is the one named in the will of her father-in-law, John Caldwell, Sr.]
