Andrus Genealogy at the Watertown, New York Library Ezekiel Andrus, Sr. resided first at Farmington and later in the adjoining town of Bristol or Burlington and afterwards they resided at Kinderhook, Columbia, New York. From Kinderhook they moved to Utica, New York, where Mrs. Andrus died on August 20, 1799. In the Spring of 1800, he moved the remainder of his family to what was then known as the Black River Country, New York, and took up a piece of land (144 Acre) bordering on what was later known as the Middle Road, Town of Rutland and here built his log cabin and was about the 5th family to settle in the town. Later when the Middle Road was laid out, he built a log house near the highway and in 1827, he built a frame house in its place where he lived to the time of his death, March 14, 1828. This property now belongs to the E. P Dodge Est. and is distinquished by a bronze marker by the roadside on which appears the name of EZEKIEL ANDRUS SETTLED IN 1800. LATER, IN 1941, ON THE SITE OF THE OLD LOG HOUSE, WAS BUILT A MARKER WITH THE STONES FROM THE OLD FIRE PLACE TO WHICH WAS ATTACHED A BRONZE TABLET LIKE THE ONE MENTIONED ABOVE.
