Born and raised in Lincoln Creek (later Galvin), Washington. Attended Cen tralia High School where he graduated in 1927. Sang "Love's Dream" by Saw yer on June 3, 1924 at a recital given by pupils of Miss Edna Newell at t he First Presbyterian Church in Centralia. His father had a severe stro ke when Everett was a senior in High School. The family moved to Central ia where Everett worked as a night clerk at the Dale Hotel (address 1 06 E Magnolia, Centralia) and attended Centralia College. During the Gre at Depression he helped support his family by picking ferns until there w as an opening at the Post Office where he became a postman and clerk. P olk guide for Lewis County does not list the family in Centralia for 1927- 28 edition, but they are listed in the 1929-30 edition with Frank S. , gar dener, living at home with his wife Ethel E. at 1115 S. Gold, with Evere tt as a student residing at the same address. Ethel is also listed at t he Hotel Dale for that year. They are also listed in the 1931-2 Polk dir ectory at the same address. The 1934 directory lists their occupati on as florist, still at the same address (later directories not yet checke d).

He is listed in the Senior Roll, Number 4, in the program for the Commence ment Exercises, Senior Class of 1927, Centralia High School, May 29 - Ju ne 3, 1927.

He served in WWII in U.S. Navy. He entered the Navy on September 10, 194 2. As an only son of an invalid father and the main support of his famil y, he could have had an exemption, but chose to volunteer. Due to his ci vilian career as a postal clerk and his older age, he entered the Na vy as a Petty Officer First Class Mailman. He was stationed in New York a nd Panama. While in New York he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer. Ju st prior to the end of the war he was transferred to San Francisco and w as going to be part of the invasion force of Japan, which was not necessa ry due to the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He served on boa rd LST 49 during the occupation and received the Order of the Golden Drag on for sailing into the five main Chinese Ports (before they were clos ed by the communists in 1949) including Hong Kong, Tientsin, and Shangha i. He received an honorable discharge on January 31, 1946 as a Chief Mail man, but remained in the inactive reserves because he suspected that t he US might get into a war with the Soviet Union. He was recalled to acti ve duty on September 18, 1950 in Seattle,WA, for the Korean War because t he Mailman rating was considered a communications specialty. He serv ed on the USS Salisbury Sound (AV13 - seaplane tender) in the Pacifi c. He was the chief in charge of the radio shack. As he said, "I didn 't even know how to turn it on, but I had good boys." He also saw so me of Japan and bought numerous gifts for his family while there, includi ng several sets of Japanese china. He received the Navy Occupation meda l. He was discharged on November 20, 1951. His first wife was Anna L. Reuters. The Decree of Divorce was granted Ju ly 17, 1950.

He retired from the Postal Service on April 30, 1966 according to a retire ment certicate issued by the Post Office Department. He started before Wo rld War II and served 30 years, including the time in the Navy which count ed for retirement purposes.

Obituary from Daily Chronicle, April 26, 1988: Everett Earl Maynard -- a life-time resident of the Centralia area, Evere tt Earl Maynard, 78, died in Providence Hospital, Centralia, Sunday, Apr il 24. He was born Oct. 3, 1909, in Galvin, and was a veteran of World War II a nd the Korean conflict. A retired mail carrier and postal clerk, Mayna rd worked at the Centralia post office for 30 years. He belonged to Centralia Lodge 63, F. and A.M.[Masons], Grant Hodge Post 1 7, American Legion and Royal Neighbors of America. Following retireme nt he owned and operated Forest Evergreen for 18 years [incorrect -- it w as during his working years, he worked 2 jobs]. Surviving are two daughters, and a son; six grandchildren; and a siste r, Edith Rector of Centralia; Arrangements are under the direction of Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary of Cent ralia.
