Facts and Events
Ethel often spoke of her early life at Forrest, near Cape Otway, Victoria. She spoke of Bullock teams pulling logs from the bush, and the fact that she had to walk a long way to school. She said the family had pet magpies that would talk, and other pet animals. When the minister visited they would have to cover the magpie as her brothers had taught it to swear. Later she worked as a live-in nanny in the Wimmera. She spoke of the severe dust storms. Ethel was a first class knitter and would make socks and jumpers. She had a treadle Singer sewing machine and used it to make her children's school trousers and other things. She was also a very good, resourceful cook. Ethel is buried with her husband at Trafalgar Cemetery. References
