She was Swiss Reformed.

Esther Naeff emigrated from Wallissellen, Canton Zurich, Switzerland 8 May 1743 aboard the ship Francis and Elizabeth with her sister and three Naeff families arriving at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Esther departed for America with her sister, Anna Barbara Naeff, daughter of Hans Naeff, was schoolmaster. She received a land deed, land to children according to Christian Shively's will of 16 November 1773 at Buffalo Township, Northumberland County. Deed for eastern one fourth of 1000 acres from Esher Shively, widow of Christian Shively and Christian Weist; executors of Christian's will, to her son Christian. Consideration 200 pounds. Date of the deed is November 16, 1775. The adjoining one fourth went to Barbara, married to David Smith. He built his mill in 1780, sold out and went to Ohio in 1804. There have been many additions and changes, but the original timbers remain. The next section went to Esther, married to Ludwig Smith. The western section went to John, who was captured by the Indians in 1781 and never heard from again.
