    Oral family history claims that Esther's parents came to Minnesota from Canada shortly before her birth and that she was the first white child born in Minnesota Territory, or the part of it where the family lived. Her marriage license lists birth as Hennepin, MN, but most census records give her birthplace as Canada and the 1900 Census gives an immigration date of 1857.
