Contributed by Pat Jackson Westerfield: My father's name was Earnest Walker Jackson Born May 22, 1897 in Trenton, Texas. He was a painter when he came to California. He was so good he never missed a day of work during the depression. In the 1930's the famiily moved to Harlingen, Texas, where he had a paint factory. The weather was so humid there, he made a paint for that climate "Valley Made for Valley trade" his slogan. Unfortuately the family could not take the heat and humidity and they moved back to California. After painting for a while he opened a paint store in Bellflower, California, commuting from Glendora. He tried to join the Army during World War II (He had been in WWI in the trenches in France), but they would not accept him (probably age and family). He wanted to do his part for the war effort so he lived in Bellflower and worked the defense factory at night and the Paint Store in the day. We took the street car on week-ends to be with him. He later had Paint stores in Azusa, Glendora and Fontana. The one in Fontana is run by my brother and his son. My mother also worked in the Paint Store and had a great knowledge of the Paint business. My Dad died August 2, 1982 in Redlands, California. He lived in Yucaipa, California, and he was buried next to my Mom in Oakdale Cemetery, Glendora California.
