Research by Jean Whitten Edwards in her Earp Family Genealogy Pension Record, Erasmus Erp, Revolutionary Service, File #R3364. "State of Maryland, Montgomery County."

On this 21st day of December, 1840, personally appeared...Erasmus Erp, a resident of Maryland in the County of Montgomery aged 83 years who being first duly sworn according to Law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of congress passed June, 1832. That he entered the Service of the United States under the following named officers and serviced as herein stated. Major Mountjoy Baley and Captain John Nicholas of Maryland Militia the names or number of the battalion I have forgotten, if any more than Baley's Battalion. Old age and bodily disability has so impared my memory that I have forgotten the day, month and year but know that I entered the service in the latter part of the revolutionary war and from the circumtances of some of our company, entering a field on our march and plucking some water melions which our captain harshley repomanded them for, know that I joined the company sometime in the summer. I joined my captain as a volunteer at a place now know as the county cite of Montgomery and cald Rockville in Maryland where I remained for six or eight we eks and acted as a corporal, at which time I was attached by a violent fever and my captain sent me home and I was confined at home for nine month and before I was able to return to the company was discharged consequently I did not receive any other discharge from my officer.

And the said Erasmus further declares that he was born in 1757 and that he has no record of his age more than the frequent declarations of his parents and that he was living in Fredrick County, maryland at the time of being cald into service and that he was a volunteer under Captain John Nicholas, and was born in Fredrick County, maryland. He hereby relinquishes every claim whot ever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.

Sworn and subscribed the day and year aforesaid.
