Emanuel Charles Miller was born on February 13, 1828, in Darke County, Ohio, on what is now the old Katherman homestead on Harris Creek. He lived in Darke County all his life with exception of living in Indiana for about two years around 1851. He married twenty-year old Nancy Ann Wagaman, daughter of Jacab Wagaman and Mary Overly, on February 24, 1850, in Darke County, Ohio. She was born in 1829 in Adams Township, Darke County, Ohio. Curiously enough, it seems that the Miller and Wagamon families originated from almost the exact region in Switzerland, near Berne, and went from there to Germany at about the same time. They all came to the same county in Ohio, Darke County, and settled within a few miles of each other.

Newly married Emanuel and Nancy settled in Adams Township, Darke County, Ohio, probably on his father's farm, and Emanuel worked as a farmer. Between 1850 and 1865, Emanuel and Nancy had eight children: Emma, Mary Jane, John Henry, Sara Elizabeth, William Riley, Isabelle, Jacob Martin, and Samuel Harvey Miller. Between 1850 and 1860, they moved to a farm in Van Buren Township, Darke County, Ohio, where they remained until at least 1880. Nancy died in 1890 in Adams Township, Darke County, Ohio, and is buried Oakland Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio.

In 1892, Emanuel married the widow Emma Zerbe Cable, daughter of David Zerbe and Elizabeth Keller, and before 1900 they relocated to Gettysburg, Adams, Township, Darke County, Ohio. He was described as an honorable and highly respected citizen and for many years a member of the Dunkard Church. He held the office of Trustee of the Oakland Church at the time of his death. He died at his home in Gettysburg on May 13, 1903, at age 74, and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Adams Township, Darke County, Ohio.

Emanuel Miller was born in Darke County on what is now the old Katherman homestead on Harris Creek, February 13, 1828 and died at his home in Gettysburg May 13, 1903 aged 74 years, 3 months. He lived in Darke County all his life with exception of living in Indiana for about 2 years. He was the seventh son of a family of 11 children to depart this life.

In February 1850 he was married to Nancy Wogaman to which were born 8 children, all of whom survive him.

The mother died in 1890 and in 1892 Emanuel was married to Emma Cable (nee Zerbe) who survives him.

He was an honorable and highly respected citizen and for many years a member of the Dunkard Church. He held the office of Trustee of the Oakland Church at the time of his death.

Besides his widow and 8 children he leaves 47 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; two brothers; 2 sisters and many other relatives and friends to mourn his departure.

The funeral service was held at the Oakland, May 15, conducted by Revs. Stover and Christian.

Jacob Miller, father of the deceased moved from Montgomery County to Darle County about 1820 and located on Harris Creek. After building a cabin he cut down 22 big oak trees to prevent them from falling on his rude structure in case of storm; this shows the density of the primeval firest. It is said he left Montgomery County with 15 cents in his pocket which he spent for help in crossing [the] Stillwater [River]. He cut his on road most of the way from Covington and finally landed on what is now the old Katherman farm without a penny in his pocket.
