PROCTORSVILLE - Elva May Davis, 85, a resident of Mountain View Center in Rutland, and formerly of Proctorsville, died July 16, 2006, at the Mountain View Center in Rutland.

She was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Woodstock, the daughter of Fred and Maybelle (Comstock) Wardwell.

She attended schools in West Bridgewater and later married Ralph A. Davis in 1939.

Mrs. Davis was employed as a seamstress at Flamstead of Vermont for many years, and later worked at General Electric in Rutland.

She was a member of St. James Methodist Church, as well as the Myrtle Rebekah Lodge in Proctorsville.

She enjoyed sewing and playing the piano.

Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Lockwood of Proctorsville and Irene Wood of Chester; two sons, LeRoy Davis of Ludlow and Albert Davis of Proctorsville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Frederica Welch of Killington and Joyce Phillips of Bridgewater; a brother, Ivan Wardwell of New London, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Davis was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, in 1973; a daughter, Shirley Gray; a brother, Myron Wardwell; and a sister, Elnora Fadden.

The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2006, at St. James Methodist Church in Proctorsville, with the Rev. Margo Marrone of Tyson officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Proctorsville.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006, at the Davis Memorial Chapel, 99 Summer St., Springfield.
