From a file at the Morgan County Public Library, no newspaper name given, dated December 22, 1939 Funeral of Elmina Farmer Funeral services were conducted at the Friends Church Monday afternoon for Mrs. Elmina H. Farmer, age 83, who passed away Saturday night. Rev. Albert L. Copeland conducted the services. The songs were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Have Thine Own Way Lord” sung by a quartette. The pall bearers were: Messrs. Everard Hadley, Harry Hadley, Emmett Farmer, Lolas Hadley, Loren Hadley, Luther Hadley. The flowers were carried by Mesdames Everard Hadley, Harry Hadley, Louise Brown, Emmett Farmer, Lolas Hadley and Alpha Farmer. Mrs. Farmer was born in Weldon, Iowa, and came to this community with her family at the age of seven. The trip was made in a covered wagon. She has lived in this community for 76 years. In 1875 she was graduated from the old Friends Academy here. She attended the Friends Boarding school in Richmond, which later became Earlham. Mrs. Farmer became a teacher after completing her education, teaching in Bethel, Macy and White Lick county schools. In May 21st she married Alfred W. Farmer. They established a home near town which they named Hillsdale. When Mr. Farmer’s health failed they moved to Mooresville where he died several years ago. Mrs. Farmer has been an active member of the Friends church and a charter member of the Woman’s Missionary Auxiliary of the Western Yearly meeting. She enjoyed her association and work in the clubs and attended regularly. She was a member of the W. C. T. U. Mooresville Woman’s club and Home Circle club. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. R. B. Henley of Chicago and Mrs. E. T. Albertson on Indianapolis. Three grand children, Mrs. C. J. Welsch of Chicago, Joe Stanley of Clayton and Harold Albertson of Indianapolis and three great grand children also survive. Burial was in the Mooresville cemetery. References
