HAW RIVER - Mr. Elmer Long Coble, 87, 905 Keck Road, died at 1:05 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998 at White Oak Manor.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Maggie Lewis Coble and Mrs.. Bernice Cole Coble, who survives. He was retired from Kayser Roth Hosiery. He fought in World War II as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Other than his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs.. Nellie Coble Crawford Boggs and Mrs.. Sandra Cole Coffin, both of Haw River, and Mrs.. Della Sue Cole Roberson of Burlington; a sister, Ms. Lucy Coble of Snow Camp; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Jackie Coble; two sisters, Mrs.. Kathleen Miller and Mrs.. Mary Jane Combs; and four brothers, Mr. Henry "Tag" Coble, Mr. John Coble, Mr. Lonnie Coble and Mr. Edgar "Dink" Coble.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Richard Poindexter, pastor of First Baptist Church of Haw River, and Rev. James Rosser, pastor of Haw River Christian Church. The burial will be in Mt. Heron United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 p.m. today and at other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 2636, Chapel Hill, N.C. 27515-2636, or to the American Kidney Association.
