NOTE: Bernice most probably was not born an Isley. She was not enumerated with the family in 1920. She was shown as Bernice "Ferper", age 17, boarder, in the 1930 census. "Ferper" is not a correct surname. I have not been able to locate a census record with that last name in any census. Her death record, Book 95, page 119, does show Jess Isley and Lettie Jones as her parents.


Bernice Cole Coble

   BURLINGTON — Bernice Cole Coble, 94, of 323 Baldwin Road, Burlington, formerly of 904 Keck Road, Haw River, died at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at White Oak Manor after several years of failing health.
   A native of Richmond County, she was the wife of the late Edward Cole and Elmer Coble, and the daughter of the late Jess and Lettie Jones Isley. She was retired from Larry Davis Textiles, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Haw River, where she was active in the Willing Workers Sunday school class. She was also active with Meals on Wheels and the Haw River Craft Club.
   Survivors include daughters, Sandra C. Coffin of Haw River, and Della Sue Cole Roberson and Nellie Coble Crawford Boggs, both of Burlington; grandchildren, Mark Coffin and wife, Margaret, Miranda Wheelock, Charlie Roberson and wife, Angie, Sue Crawford Malone and husband, David, and Jimmy Crawford and wife, Karen; great-grandchildren, Meg Coffin, Jessica Wheelock, Haleigh Wheelock, Tyler Wheelock, Chris Overman, Angela Gantt, Dustin Crawford, Jason Crawford, John Crawford, Chris Malone, Scott Malone, and Melody Malone; great-great-grandchildren, Taylor Overman and Sydney Overman; a sister, Nancy Chatman; brothers, Hal Isley and wife, Dot, and Ben Isley; and all the children she took in and loved and cared for.
   She was preceded in death by a son, Don Cole; sisters, Ruby Davis and Jessie Dover; and a brother, Worth Isley.
   The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007, at First Baptist Church of Haw River by the Rev. Walter Jones, and the Rev. Michael Spinks.
Burial will be in Haw River Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Sandra Coffin, 861 Isley Road, Haw River, N.C.
   The family of Bernice Coble would like to give a special thanks to all the compassionate caregivers that helped care for Bernice over the last several years.
