Elizabeth's maiden name is unknown. Her first confirmed sighting is in 1726 at Caldecote in Hertfordshire, by which time she was already married to a clergyman named Edward Brookes, who had been appointed Rector of Caldecote in 1724. The couple had three known children, although the first died as a baby. Edward died in 1747, and Elizabeth outlived him by four years.
