  3. The reported death date of 30 Mar 1790 represents an assumption that an error was made. Source:Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States. Vital Records to the End of the Year 1849, p. 339, says "Bailey, Elizebeth, w. Col. Silas of Berlin (formerly w. Capt. Paul Brigham), March 30, 1793, a. 56. GS2". Source:Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States. Marlborough, Massachusetts, Burial Ground Inscriptions (228989), p. 9, Old Common Cemetery, says "Mrs Elizabeth Bailey, Wife of Col. Silas Bailey of Bairlin, & formerly the Wife of Capt. Paul Brigham of Marlborough, died March 30-1793; aged 53 years." (Unfortunately Find A Grave does not have a photo, and cites Marlborough Inscriptions as a source, so is useless as an independent confirmation.) First assumption: VRs changed the age at death to match the year, but 53 is authentic age at death off the gravestone. Second assumption: since this date conflicts with records of the third marriage, and since the death date of Silas in Oct 1793 pretty much rules out a third marriage if Elizabeth's 1793 death is correct, it is assumed the gravestone is hard to read and the year of death has been misread. A chip could make a zero look like a three, and since the age at death of 53 calculates to a death in 1790, it is assumed that the proper death date is 30 Mar 1790, at age 53. With this date, everything falls into a typical, orderly sequence.
