Elizabeth RANKINE. Elizebath was christened 19oct1784 in Dreghorn, Ayrshire. Elizabeth married F. MOFFAT (family letters). Elizabeth RANKIN probably married Francis MOFFAT 27apr1807 in Irvine. Francis Moffat and Elisabeth Rankin, both of this parish, were married 27apr1807 by Rev. James Henderson (Irvine OPR). Elisabeth and Francis were maybe both 24 when they married (H. Richardson). In 1841 Elizabeth Moffat (1788 Scotland) and children were with Isabella Elwell nee Moffat (1811 Scotland) at Boughton, Cheshire (census). In 1851 Frances Moffat (male, 1782, Portobello, Midlothian, bookbinder), wife Elizabeth (1785 MaHlene (probably Mauchline), Ayrshire) were at Nicolson St., Edinburgh (census, ancestry.com). Francis Moffat lived at 50 Queen St., Aberdeen and 21 Nicolson St., Edinburgh, 1801-1825 (Directories, ancestry.com). From “Scottish book trade”: Francis Moffat, in 1809, bookseller, 21 Nicolson St., Edinburgh, in 1824 bookbinder, 50 Queen St., Aberdeen. The younger siblings of Elizabeth Rankine were b. at Sorn, nr. Mauchline; probably Elizabeth thought that she was also born there. Death record: Elizabeth Moffat nee Rankin died of fever (typhoid), aged 70, 1feb1855 at Nicolson Sq., Edinburgh; she had been in that district 6 months; witness: John Moffat, son. She was b. at ?Dangon, Ayrshire, daughter of John Rankin, farmer, and Ann Rankin nee Dunlop. With her spouse Francis Moffat, she had children: Isabella (47), James (dec), Sophia (dec), Francis (dec), John (35), Elizabeth (33), Robert (29), Mary Ann (27). The birthplace Dangon may be Dalgain, later known as Sorn, which is close to Mauchline. It is strange that the mother was named Dunlop.
