In Hamilton, N. Y., on Monday, April 19th, 1869, Mrs. Betsey Starr, wife of
Albertus Star, aged 70 years. She was the daughter of Elisha Lanphere, late of
Westerly, R. I., and in her youth embraced the religion of Jesus, and was
baptized by Edl. Matthew Stillman. Soon after her marriage, the family removed
to Norfolk, Conn., where they remained till about the year 1838, when they
changed their location, and came to DeRuyter, N. Y. In November of that year
she became united with the Seventh-day Baptist Church in this place, and
retained her membership, having continued in the observance of the Sabbath,
though alone in this particular in her family, and without religious association
of her own faith. After a temporary residence at DeRuyter, the family removed
to Hamilton, where for nearly thirty years they have resided. Sister Starr was
an earnest, conscientious Christian, and though differing in her religious
opinions and practice respecting the Sabbath, was respected by all her religious
acquaintances. She leaves an affectionate husband, in advanced age, to mourn
her loss. Her family of one son and two daughters were present at the funeral,
and three brothers from Rhode Island. Mrs. Dr. Stillman, her eldest daughter,
residing at Plainfield, N. J., was with her during the last two weeks; and Mrs.
Burlingham arrived in time for the funeral, from St. Louis, Mo. Her disease was
a general paralysis, with which she suffered long and severely, with patience
and Christian resignation. Her funeral exercises were conducted by Eld. Harvey,
of Madison University.
